Expansion on Segmentation & Mapping Work

Market segmentation has become the backbone of Visit Greenland’s work. What began in 2012 with the Greenland Mapping Project, an initial research phase to identify the various types of tourists that travel to Greenland, is now in 2015, and beyond, being widely used to create targeted marketing content, to inform international relationship management, and to drive regional development.

Market segmentation has become the backbone of Visit Greenland’s work

It is designed to be an extension of the segment profiles currently available on tourismstat.gl and, in time, this website will also become more robust.

A Booklet to Understand & Use the Market Segmentation

The “Market Segmentation in Greenland” booklet gives information about how market segmentation makes sense on a global scale, descriptions of all the 11 market segments in Greenland, and case studies to delve deeper into the activity selections of the most common market segments in Greenland. It is designed to be an extension of the segment profiles currently available on tourismstat.gl and, in time, this website will also become more robust.

But the booklet also delivers a call to action to international operators to take a quiz to help identify their clients in terms of which market segment(s) they belong to. It also leads operators through a few practical Do and Don’t guidelines about custom selecting photo content for particular market segments, rather than copying & pasting the same content regardless of the audience.

In this way, Visit Greenland hopes that you not only read about how we use market segmentation but also take the information as your own and put it into practice.
